Nuclear Disaster In Japan From 2011 Is Still Making Trees Grow Weirdly

▫ According to a recent study published earlier this month in the journal Plants, the trees surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant behave strangely.

▫ Researchers from many institutions in Italy and Brazil analysed fir trees that grew near the facility, devastated in 2011 by a violent earthquake.

▫ A partial meltdown occurred at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FNPP) after an earthquake caused a tsunami that overwhelmed the plant’s cooling systems.

▫ The scientists looked at whorls, nodes where leaves, branches, or other plant elements developed from a central point and discovered that fir trees near Fukushima had strange growth patterns.
