Ukraine crisis, Russia insists it is ready to resume diplomacy

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has urged President Vladimir Putin to keep talking to Western powers about settling the Ukraine crisis.
Russia has stated that it will continue to hold diplomatic discussions with the West in order to resolve a security crisis in which it has amassed a massive force within striking distance of Ukraine.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a televised conversation in which the latter stated that “there is always a chance” to achieve a deal with the West over Ukraine.
He assured Putin that talks with leaders in Europe and the United States had revealed enough potential for progress on Russia’s goals to be worth pursuing.

In televised remarks, Lavrov stated, “I would propose continuing.” Putin said, “Fine.”

President Joe Biden spoke with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday after speaking with Putin over the weekend.

In a statement explaining the call, the White House stated, “The leaders reviewed their recent diplomatic engagements with Ukraine and Russia.”

“They also reviewed existing diplomatic and deterrence measures in response to Russia’s persistent military buildup along Ukraine’s borders and reaffirmed their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement said.
